I like clever gadgets.  They may be cheesy or even cliche, but they are also a large part of the fun for any spy game.  Thus, I'm starting a new thread.  I started a similar thread in the old forums, but it never did much.

Has anyone thought of new gadgets lately?

Spy Sensor Hand

(sorry, going from memory on my laptop...)

either a bionic/cybernetic or bio-system, the Spy Sensor Handtakes the regular Sensor Hand a bit further, incorporating a Finger Jack, and a multi-utility Laser Finger (SDC Weapon, Laser welder, Laser Torch (1 MD per melee), Laser Communicator, Laser Rangefinder, Laser Target Designator, Laser Listening Device).

The whorls of the fingers, palms and thumbs can also "morph" and take any of 5 pre-programmed shapes to leave false fingerprints.

In a Phase World setting (or Super Invention model) two of the fingers work as a Multi-tool.

<any further suggestions/improvements welcome>

AJ Picket had some neat stuff on his CyberDoc page (something I downloaded and saved) luckily.

Traditional Headjack
Full Headjack
Jack Slot
Common Jack Packs
Less Common Jack Packs
Spinal Tap
Physical Jack Packs
Sensory Processor
Advanced Multi-Optic Eye
Olfactory Analyzer
Trip Jack
Cyber Amplifier
Decrypter
Nano Skin

also, Rikonian has some interesting stuff at his web site Rikonian's Web Site

they need a little work, but I like some of the ideas.

Rikonian's ideas of translating superpowers into cybernetics and bionics has merit...it would be neat to see about translating some of the PU powers into mechanical equivalents....most energy/ranged attacks can already be done with existing weapons(especially those in the Aliens Unlimited guide) but powers like Living Anatomy would be software-based devices added to existing optical/auditory enhancements....like a voice-stress analyzer, facial recognition software, or skin-tension monitors...

yes, and what's more is that while See Aura
states in the first sentence that "All things, organic and inorganic, have an aura." It doesn't go into any detail, so a psychic should be able to tell and nicely crafted android from a regular human.

I suppose it's one of those "duh" things. :oo:

Anyway, I rather like the ability for borgs to See Auras and to generate their own.

damn good idea.

But 'borgs do have auras...EM auras from their systems, in addition to what their biological components may be creating...although their PPE aura is nowhere near that of a mage or psychic...more like that of a small animal...

I realize that, but I'm talking about an Android (not a borg) who'd be 99% machine, or perhaps covered by something that mimics bio-system flesh.

anyway, what I really meant was that the power of See Aura, only mentions what one sees on another person, not really distinguishing what one sees when they look at a washing machine, etc, etc.

obviously it's there, just no detail on it.

What is a Trip Jack?

Here is a gadget of mine which comes to mind.  I created this umbrella for a Shadowrun character based in Seatle, but the game never got off the groud.  I don't recall if I included it in the old forums or not.

Spy Umbrella
Manufacturer:  Howe, Y, and Watt Creations
Cost:  Ten thousand dollars each
Availability:  legal in most cities but available only upon special order from Howe, Y, & Watt.  A smaller version without the kevlar material is available for 10% less.  A few knock-offs have appeared in the black market for half the price, but these copies are far from perfect and prone to failure 10% of the time.
History:  Howe, Y, and Watt Creations is a small but profitable design firm based in Oregon.  HY&W specializes in building custom designed tazer weapons for the unique applications including microscopic tazers for laboratory use on bacteria and super-powerful tazers for large animal veteranians.  One of their most popular lines is a series of self-defense personal weaponry disguised as umbrellas.

The umbrellas produced by HY&W is prefered by wealthy executives specificially because it is not well known.  To that end, this line of umbrellas has no product name, is never advertised, and doesn't appear in the company catalogue.  Only a few dozen are produced each year but at great profit.  Each looks a little different, but specific colors may be requested.

The HY&W umbrellas are real functions tools which can keep rain off a client's head.  More importantly, they are also multi-fuctional self defense weapons.

First, the umbrella possesses a powerful tazer battery built into the handle.  The battery is rechargeable but only carries enough charge for five shocks at a time.  The shock delivers enough charge to put down even the largest human opponent.  The shock is equal to 4D6 SDC damage and results in a stunning effect which immobilizes the target for a full minute afterward.  If a Physical Endurance saving throw is made, the shock doesn't immobilize but merely stuns the target (-9 to all combat rolls).  This shock is delivered through the metal tip of the umbrella on the far end from the handle.

Second, a single-edged but sharp sword has been built umbrella as well.  The blade, similar to a sword cane, is housed inside the umbrella's shaft.  When needed, the 3D6 weapon may be unsheathed with a mere twist of the handle and a quick pull (a single melee action).  The tazer and sword may be used in tandem during the same attack for stackable damage.

Third, the cloth is a bullet-proof material.  This kevlar-derived heavy cloth is the same gauge as the bullet-proof umbrellas used by the Swiss Army and other VIP bodyguards around the world.  Hiding behind the opened umbrella creates an armoring effect identical to wearing a bullet proof jacket.  A secondary handle inside the umbrella makes using the saber and shield together possible (like a gladiator), but some customers complain that this is ackward due to the umbrella's size.

This guy made a video of simple spy-themed life hacks. Some are not impressive, but the dart gun he builds towards the end of the video is quite nifty. He uses an Altoids tin, a ball point pen, a hot glue gun, a bamboo skewer, and a party popper.
